Friday afternoon - it's raining
[ Jul 02 2004, 15:01 ]Google's cache of my home page seems to have recently updated and the positions of the site for searches for 'Cambridge web design' are now 24 for a web search and 17 for a UK specific search. At this rate the global position will catch up with the UK specific one.
More UK?
For quite a while Google seemed to rely almost entirely on domain name extensions for its localisation. This meant that only sites with names ending in '.uk' would be returned for UK searches. These days is seems that UK needs to feature in all the usual places.
The term 'Cambridge web design' was chosen as it's really not that commercially significant. Being right at the top might generate some traffic, but probably less than you might think, and certainly less than UK Web design or other more national or generic terms.
Strategy adjustments
I don't know exactly how different factors are influencing this sites position, and probably won't find out but while my efforts seem to be having a positive effect I might well raise the target and go for 'Web design UK'.
New position checks
Er... there aren't any. I.e. this site cannot currently be found for 'Web design UK', which represents an excellent opportunity to try things one at a time. So far I have mentioned Web design UK once, now twice. Cambridge web design is featured three times, now four, and 'web design' also features in the links above, and now again here.
