It's been a while

[ Apr 20 2005, 18:45 ]

I've been busy. Too busy. Busy is good right? Well I suppose it is most of the time, but recently I seem to have been busy with heaps of straggly stuff. For what seems like weeks now there's been a huge number of emails in my inbox, often more than 100, and after the junk's been filtered out. A lot of it hasn't needed much to clear, but there's always a proportion that open a whole can of worms.

Ah well, never mind

There are less than 10 messages to deal with now, thankfully, so I should have some time to think and breathe. Even time to do this. Shall we see if I can be found for 'web design'? I bet nothing's changed since my last entry but here goes...

Nowhere. Time to try something different.

MSN likes my site for 'web design', (page 2), and Google likes my site for all sort of other stuff, and getting on the front page for 'Cambridge web design' took a while but I managed it. So what's the problem with 'web design' and Google? I have a theory. The minus sign. It's not a theory that I'm particularly happy with but there's not much left.

A new strategy...

On one hand I'm drawn towards the idea of dumping lots of the MJB Data website in order to increase the site's concentration on web design. There's also the potential for starting a new site. Both of these options could be couter-productive of course and the least damaging option would be to simply remove the '-' from the current directory. Simple until I start to update all the links to the current 'web-design' folder of course - not just on this website, (which isn't a problem), but the dozen or so external ones.

Has to be done though. The '-' possibility has been playing on my mind for a while now and it's time to find out. The old site has been old for long enough too so I think I'll start replacing bits of it with '301 Moved Permanently' responses.

And another thing

The '301 Moved Permanently' reference probably means nothing to just about anyone and everyone who might find this page and has reminded me of another prong to the strategy - adding more content to do with 'web design'. After all, SEO is nothing without content. I've a mind-ful of insight largely going to waste - why not share it?
