Loquine Glupe

Luquine glupe and the loquine glupe SEO contest are discussed and deliberated on by Matthew Barnett of MJB Data.

Loquine Glupe

Loquine glupe probably won't mean anything to most people as neither words, loquine or glupe, are to be found in any dictionary. However, to many SEO devotees around the world loquine glupe is a teasing little couplet designed to entice them into testing and demonstrating their prowess at getting web pages to the top of Google for a particular search term.

Why Loquine Glupe?

There are several reasons for using made up words for SEO competitions. Most importantly It creates a level playing field as, prior to the contest beginning, no-one will have published any content relating to either of the words in question which might otherwise give them a head start.

A Worthless spam-fest or a worthy experiment?

It's inevitable really that web pages created to be entries in the loquine glupe contest will be about being entries in the loquine glupe contest and little else. It is, after all, a little difficult to wax lyrical about words that have just been made up for one use and one use alone and that otherwise have absolutely no meaning. Ultimately it's a pointless competition and when it's over its legacy will be nothing more than to have added to the Internet and Google's cache a few thousand more pages of meaningless nothing, repeating itself and feeding off itself as this kind of thing does. However, the egoist-crusader in me likes to think that even given a topic with a title as meaningless as 'bopish noance', 'pringly tifita' or 'loquine glupe', it's still possible to actually write something that will leave whoever happens upon it with a feeling that that they've learned something new or been entertained or challenged.

The definition of spam, in the search context, is attempting to get less worthwhile pages to rank higher than more useful ones. Trying to get one page to rank above another for a search term that no-one would normally be expected to use can probably be absolved. Nevertheless, I can't help hoping that whatever page is found at the number 1 slot on Google on March 1st 2005, it will feature something mildly more interesting than a link to the official rules and a few "Hey, I've entered the LG contest and here's why" entries. We'll see.

If you've found this page in a quest for the Holy 'How do I rank better' Grail, the thing to remember is that the weighting of one tag over another or the importance given to link-popularity versus word-density or a thousand other potential ranking factors, there's only really one key everlasting important factor - good, original content. Google like most reputable search services wants to match searchers' searches with useful and authoritative sources of information that will help them, entertain them, interest and/or amuse them. If you provide and publish world-class content you'll rank well for relevant search terms, unless of course you nobble your efforts by using publishing methods that work against you. But that's another story...
